Margate VOTE
August 26, 2008
Joyce Williams Bryan.

Excerpts from interview with Lisa J. Huriash- South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Why should voters choose you over your opponents for this job?

I have the will, I have the mental ability, I have the capacity to speak to people, work with people. I've been an advocate for people in every group from the old to the young. I would be an advocate for the people of Margate [and offer] some new ideas, new thinking, new perceptions.

Why are you running for this seat?

We all hear about change but I'm running for the seat because it's time for Margate to have a choice — not the same political realm, the same buddies. I want to give the people of Margate a choice for somebody with character and passion and integrity.

I believe that a leader must be someone who is willing to serve. In all of my professional career and volunteer positions,  I have served people and been advocated for people who could not speak for themselves.

Personal Thoughts:

Margate is fifty-three years old and there has never been a person of color as a city official.  All my life I have had relationships with people of different colors and cultures.  I am an African-American and I was born and raised in New Jersey. My husband is Jamaican.  In our families we have people from other Carribean countries, Hispanics, English, Chinese, Dutch, and Belgian.
